it's only september

i was in safeway earlier this week when i saw them. pumpkins, the first of the coming holiday season. my face lit up. after all, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, bell ringers, the smell of christmas trees... what's not the enjoy? and when else can you glue yourself to the tv for the a christmas story marathon? then top all of that off with fireworks and the new years resolutions you know you'll never keep. holy hell i'm giddy just thinking about it.

unfortunately, the light in my face didn't last long as i realized it's still september. who buys their pumpkin a month and a half before they need to? and who bakes sugar cookies with ghosts printed on them before summer is officially over? i really lost it when i discovered the aisle of christmas lights at fred meyers. IT'S SEPTEMBER! the thing that is so wonderful and special about the holiday season (besides all the sentimental family/jesus stuff) is that it only lasts for a short time. when people buy their turkeys in july it takes something away from the joy of the season.

september is simply not the time to start putting up christmas lights.
